History

Our roots in construction run deep. At just 16, our managing director began his apprenticeship in Nelson with a small residential building company, gaining hands-on experience and honing his craft. Early in his training, he transitioned into the commercial sector, contributing to large-scale projects such as polytechnic institute buildings, and successfully completed his apprenticeship after four years.

At 20, he moved to Christchurch to pursue a Diploma in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying. While studying, he founded JPB Builders Limited on 7 September 2010, combining practical on-site expertise with a vision to build a company grounded in quality, innovation, and strong client relationships.

Following the Christchurch earthquakes, he joined Arrow International while continuing his studies, further developing his project management skills and gaining valuable experience on large-scale construction projects. In 2013, after completing his diploma, he launched Brownie Homes, marking the next chapter in the company’s evolution.

By 2018, recognising the company’s growth and diversification, we rebranded as Brownie Construction to reflect our expanded portfolio, which now includes commercial construction, interior fit-outs, and high-end residential projects. That same year, we opened a branch in Queenstown, extending our expertise to one of New Zealand’s most dynamic and fast-growing regions.

In July 2021, Warren Tucker joined as a shareholder, bringing additional experience, strategic insight, and a shared vision for the company’s future.

Today, our leadership team continues to deliver exceptional projects across multiple sectors, foster innovation, and uphold a legacy of excellence in construction. From our founder’s first days on the tools to leading complex, multi-sector builds, our story is one of dedication, growth, and an enduring passion for building.
